Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker Dendrocopos macei is smaller and less boldly streaked below than Stripe-breasted WoodpeckerD. atratus. Male has duller and less extensive red cap and thicker white barring that covers entire mantle. Underparts dirty buff, olive-yellow in Stripe-breasted Woodpecker. Bill also smaller. Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker occurs Pakistan to northern Burma, with records in China from southeast Tibet and western Yunnan. The place where these photos were taken, Rongshu Wang (24.667263, 97.598490), in Yingjiang County, Yunnan, lies 2½ km (1½ mi.) from the Sino-Burmese border.
