It is a common resident and passage migrant in suburban Shanghai. In urban Shanghai, Oriental Turtle Dove is less commonly noted than Spotted Dove Spilopelia chinensis. (Craig Brelsford) A reliable criterion separating Oriental Turtle Dove Streptopelia orientalis meena (L panels) and European Turtle Dove S. turtur arenicola (R panels) is the reddish bare skin around the eye of the latter.
