Mongolian Five-toed Jerboa Mongolian Five-toed Jerboa Allactaga sibirica, also known as Siberian Jerboa, near Maduo-Machali (34.911354, 98.211208), Qinghai, China, elev. 4260 m (13,980 ft.), July. This photo, taken by the light of the headlights of our car, serves as an introduction to this unusual rodent but doesn’t nearly do it justice. To fully appreciate the jerboa, one needs to see the lightning-fast bounds of what the Chinese call ‘jump-mouse’ (tiàoshǔ [跳鼠]).
